Although The Hall of Presidents was one of the original attractions when Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park first opened its doors in 1971, the history of the attraction actually dates to an audio-animatronic exhibition called “Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln” that Walt Disney featured at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.
The Hall of Presidents is located in Liberty Square – just across the bridge from Cinderella Castle. The attraction begins with a short patriotic film that traces the history of the United States Constitution and early presidential milestones. After the film, the screen disappears to reveal a stage full of life-size, audio-animatronic figures of each of the 42 U.S. presidents – from George Washington to Barack Obama (who was added in 2009 and delivers the Presidential Oath during the show). The meticulous detail apparent in the design of the audio-animatronic presidents includes authentically reproduced hand-tailored suits, hairstyles, mannerisms and even braces on Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s legs.
Other 2009 renovations include President George Washington in a new speaking role, the addition of an entirely new score by Emmy winner Joel McNeely and new displays in the Rotunda pre-show area.
The Hall of Presidents show runs for approximately 25 minutes and takes place every half-hour. Dining opportunities near the theater include the Liberty Tree Tavern and Sleepy Hollow (snack bar). For souvenirs, check out the adjacent Heritage House, which offers a variety of presidential memorabilia, and Liberty Square Portrait Gallery.
