All areas of Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Oasis, Africa, Rafiki’s Planet Watch, Asia and DinoLand U.S.A. – radiate out from Discovery Island, the centerpiece of the theme park. Discovery Island is easily accessible via a bridge leading from the North end of the Oasis, just past the theme park’s main entrance.
Highlights of Discovery Island, which was formerly known as Safari Village, include the 14-story Tree of Life, which serves as the magnificent icon of Disney’s Animal Kingdom; Discovery Island Trails, home to various exotic animal habitats; and It’s Tough to be a Bug!, a state-of-the-art 3-D adventure that lies underneath the Tree of Life.
Dining opportunities on Discovery Island include the Flame Tree Barbecue and Pizzafari. Discovery Island offers several specialty shops such as Island Mercantile,Beastly Bazaar, Disney Outfitters and Creature Comforts, as well as a Disney character greeting area.
