The innovative circus troupe Cirque du Soleil (“Circus of the Sun”) has scored an ongoing hit with “La Nouba,” a groundbreaking spectacle billed as “A Boundless and Festive Journey of the Imagination” that combines theatrical effects, daring aerobatics, dance, circus acts, comedy and live music. Cirque du Soleil La Nouba was written and directed by Belgian theater director Franco Dragone. Fun for the entire family, La Nouba performances are held Tuesday through Saturday at 6 PM and 9 PM at Downtown Disney West Side.

The state-of-the-art theater that houses La Nouba can seat up to 1,671 people per show. La Nouba acts include jongleurs (jugglers), high wire, diablos (Chinese yo-yos), cycles, aerial cradle, aerial ballet in silk, flying trapeze, power track/trampoline and skipping ropes. La Nouba characters include Clowers, Les Cons (The Nuts), The Dancers, The Titan, The Cleaning Lady, The Acobatic Pierrot, The Green Bird and The Walker.

Performances are held Tuesday through Saturday at 6 PM and 9 PM. Box office hours are 11 AM through 11 PM, Tuesday through Saturday; and 11 AM to 9 PM on Sunday, Monday and no-show dates. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance. Even if you can’t make the show, be sure to check out the Cirque du Soleil La Nouba gift shop, which lies in front of the theater. RICH’S REVIEW: Cirque du Soleil La Nouba is somewhat pricey but well worth the effort since it’s a one-of-a-kind extravaganza suitable for all ages. Though I don’t think there’s a bad seat in the house, try to get front and center so you can catch all the action. Call ahead and reserve your seats early. By the way, La Nouba is derived from the French phrase, “faire la nouba,” which means to “to party, to live it up!”
