The Haunted Mansion - Liberty Square - Disney's Magic Kingdom Park
Visit 999 ghosts and ghouls (“. . . there’s always room for one more!”) at this classic Magic Kingdom attraction, which is located in the far Northern corner of Liberty Square. Take an approximately eight-minute-long ride in a “Doom Buggy” through the Haunted Mansion courtesy of a state-of-the-art Omnimover ride system, along with some great special effects and amazing audio-animatronics.
Highlights of The Haunted Mansion include the small graveyard with humorous epitaphs (see listing below) at the entrance to the English Tudor style dwelling, the octagonal stretching room with no doors or windows, creepy narration from the “Ghost Host,” the ghostly ballroom, séance, spooky graveyard, the singing busts and ever-popular “hitchhiking ghosts” who hop aboard the “Doom Buggies” at the end of the ride. As you exit the attraction, note the names on the crypts such as Asher T. Ashes, Dustin T. Dust, Manny Festation, Pearl E. Gates, Rustin Peese and I.M. Ready, among others.
The Haunted Mansion made its debut as one of the original attractions when Disney’s Magic Kingdom first opened its doors in 1971 and has remained relatively unchanged over the years. A movie based on the attraction, The Haunted Mansion, was released in 2003 and starred Eddie Murphy. Each of the other Disney theme parks – Disneyland, Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland – offer their own variations of The Haunted Mansion.
In addition to The Haunted Mansion, Liberty Square is home to The Hall of Presidents and Liberty Square Riverboat. Dining opportunities near The Haunted Mansion include Columbia Harbour House, which serves sandwiches, fish and chicken baskets, salads, clam chowder and cold drinks.
Note: As one of the most popular attractions at Disney’s Magic Kingdom, The Haunted Mansion draws long lines at all times of the day. However, FASTPASS is available and highly recommended for this attraction.
Although there are no height restrictions for The Haunted Mansion, the ride may be too scary for young children.
Haunted Mansion Epitaphs "Dear sweet Leota/beloved by all/In regions beyond now/but having a ball"
"Good friend Gordon/now you've crossed/the River Jordan"
