Splash Mountain - Frontierland - Disney's Magic Kingdom Park
Arguably the most popular thrill ride at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park, Splash Mountain combines all the best elements of Disney audio-animatronics with the speed and adventure of a classic flume attraction.
“Now this tale didn’t happen yesterday, nor the day before, but long, long ago . . .” Take a flume ride adventure aboard a hollowed-out log through swamps and bayous within an 87-foot-high mountain as you enjoy the crazy antics of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear from Disney’s 1946 classic movie Song of the South. Along the way, prepare to get soaked as you plunge five free-falling stories at a 45-degree angle into a watery oasis at 40 miles per hour!
The ride, which opened at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park in the fall of 1992, takes approximately 11 minutes as you wind your way to the top of Chickapin Hill while enjoying such memorable songs as “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah,” “How Do You Do” and “Everybody’s Got a Laughin’ Place.” The Showboat finale will definitely get your feet tapping as the audio-animatronic characters cheerfully sing and dance to the strains of “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.”
As you exit the ride, make sure to check out the photo of your exhilarating trip down the waterfall (photos can be purchased at the counter). In addition, keep your eye out for Disney characters such as Brer Fox and Brer Bear wandering around the entrance to Splash Mountain – signing autographs and appearing for photos at scheduled times during the day.
Splash Mountain lies in the heart of Frontierland, adjacent to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and overlooking Tom Sawyer’s Island. Dining options near Splash Mountain include Pecos Bill Café, which serves burgers, hot dogs, wraps, salads, French fries and cold drinks. Splash Mountain souvenirs can be found at the Briar Patch shop. In addition to Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Splash Mountain can be found at Disneyland, where it first opened in 1989, and Tokyo Disneyland.
Note: Extremely popular, Splash Mountain typically draws some of the longest lines at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park. However, FASTPASS is available for Splash Mountain. Also, you most definitely will get splashed during the ride, so wear a rain poncho if you don’t want to get soaked.
Height Restriction: You must be at least 40 inches tall to ride Splash Mountain.
