Big Thunder Mountain Railroad - Frontierland - Disney's Magic Kingdom
One of Frontierland’s most popular attractions, this thrilling roller coaster (in the form of a runaway train) twists and turns its way through an Old West mining town with loads of surprises along the way – including caves, mountains, sulfur pools, dinosaur bones and avalanches! It’s billed as “the wildest ride in the wilderness!”
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which opened at Disney’s Magic Kingdom in the fall of 1980, is located at the extreme end of Frontierland, adjacent to Splash Mountain. The train ride takes approximately 3 ½ minutes long. There are six trains in use with the following nicknames: I.B. Hearty, I.M. Brave, I.M. Fearless, U.B. Bold, U.R. Daring and U.R. Courageous. Don’t miss the audio-animatronic animals that appear throughout the ride such as goats, donkeys, chickens and possums.
In addition to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Frontierland is also home to Splash Mountain, Tom Sawyer Island and Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade. For Big Thunder Mountain Railroad souvenirs, check out the nearby Briar Patch shop. Dining opportunities near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad include Peco’s Bill’s, a casual restaurant that serves cheeseburgers, hot dogs, wraps, French fries, salads and cold drinks.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad also can be found at Disneyland, where it first opened in 1979, Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland.
