A magnificent, 180-foot-tall geosphere that weighs an incredible 16 million pounds, Spaceship Earth lies near the main entrance to Epcot and serves as the principal gateway to the theme park. One of Epcot’s original attractions, the Spaceship Earth ride itself takes you on an entertaining journey through the history of communication as narrated by actor Jeremy Irons (Walter Cronkite was the previous narrator).
Highlights of Spaceship Earth include audio-animatronic scenes of cave paintings, Egyptian hieroglyphics, Greek dramas, Roman Empire, ancient monasteries, Italian Renaissance artists and much more. The ride takes approximately 15 minutes. In front of Spaceship Earth lies the Leave a Legacy sculptures.
UPDATE: Spaceship Earth relaunched in February 2008 after major renovations. Presented by Siemens, the new and improved Spaceship Earth features four new scenes, new costumes and set decorations, new lighting and special effects, a new musical score by award-winning composer Bruce Broughton, new narration by Dame Judi Dench (Shakespeare in Love) and a "totally rethemed interactive post-show."
