Orlando Travel Tips

Looking for Orlando travel tips such as currency exchange, driving tips, making reservations, newspapers, phone calls, radio stations and staying safe? Check out the Orlando travel tips below:

CURRENCY EXCHANGE IN ORLANDO
Most banks, hotels and resorts, as well as many area attractions, offer foreign money exchange. For exchanges at a theme park, visit the guest relations window at the entrance to the park. In hotels or resorts, visit guest services or the front desk.

DRIVING TIPS FOR ORLANDO

Drive on the right hand side of the road.

Always wear a seatbelt – it’s the law!

Children ages 5 and under must be in a crash-tested approved restraint device.

Children ages 3 and under must travel in child-safety seats.

According to Florida law, headlights must be on during a rainstorm.

For roadside emergencies, Florida Highway Patrol blue call boxes are located along major highways.
Dial *FHP on your cell phone.

Traffic information is available in select areas by dialling 511.

GENERAL ORLANDO TIPS

Try to plan what you want to see and do in advance, but don't overschedule.

Bring plenty of film because Florida is filled with photo ops. Most "disposable" cameras will produce great pictures if you're outdoors.

Use sunscreen, wear a hat and drink plenty of water when you're outdoors, even if you're not at the beach or pool.

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, especially if you're visiting a theme park.

Take a break or do something indoors (visit a shopping mall or go to a movie) during the hottest part of the day.

Keep an eye out for coupon books and discounts for theme parks, attractions, restaurants, etc.

Ask about discounts for seniors, students, Florida residents, etc., at theme parks and attractions.

Purchase your discount theme park tickets online before arriving in Orlando.

MAKING RESERVATIONS IN ORLANDO
If you’re traveling during a peak season – the summer, Spring Break or close to any major holiday – be sure to secure your reservations as soon as possible. If you wait too long for airline and car rental reservations, they may be completely booked or fairly expensive. Also, if you have pets and plan to board them in a kennel while you’re gone, you should make arrangements as early as possible.

ORLANDO PHONE CALLS
Central Florida requires 10-digit dialing for local phone calls. When making a call, dial the three-digit area code (i.e., 407) and then the seven-digit local number. Dialing 1 is only necessary for long distance calls or before a toll-free number.

STAYING SAFE IN ORLANDO

Don’t allow children to swim in pools without adult supervision – not even for a short time!

Dress children in bright colors that you can spot easily in a crowd, and take note of the colors they are wearing.

Teach your children the rules of safety such as how to ask for help if they are separated from you.

Avoid leaving valuables such as cash, jewelry and credit cards in your hotel room while you’re out.

Don’t display cash in public.

Use travelers checks as much as possible since you can get your money back if they are lost or stolen.
