An exciting era for Orlando sports began on October 26, 2007, when Central Florida's new professional indoor soccer team, the Orlando Sharks, opened its inaugural season against the New Jersey Ironmen. The Sharks play all of their home matches at the Amway Arena in downtown Orlando.
As part of the newly created National Indoor Soccer League (NISL), which was formed after the Major Indoor Soccer League dissolved in May 2008, the Orlando Sharks will compete against the likes of the Baltimore Blast, Monterrey La Raza, Philadelphia KiXX and Rockford Rampage (the 2007-08 American Indoor Soccer League champions).
