Orlando Magic 2009-10 Season
Amway Arena
600 West Amelia Street , Downtown Orlando, Florida
407-896-2442, 1-877-803-7073 The Orlando Magic basketball team, which celebrated its 20th anniversary season ("20 FANtastic Seasons") in 2008-09, plays its home games at the 17,500-seat Amway Arena (formerly known as the TD Waterhouse Centre) in downtown Orlando.
The Orlando Magic joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) during the 1989-90 season, drafted center Shaquille O’Neal as the No. 1 overall pick in 1992, traded for point guard Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway and three future first-round draft choices in 1993 and advanced to the NBA finals where they were swept by the Houston Rockets during the 1994-95 season. In 1996, Shaq headed to Los Angeles and the Magic floundered for the next couple of years but things looked up once again with the arrival of emerging superstar Tracy McGrady during the 2000-01 season. McGrady led the team for a couple of quality years but was traded in 2004 to the Houston Rockets. The Orlando Magic now boast a highly talented squad that includes superstar Dwight Howard. Stan Van Gundy became the new head coach of the Orlando Magic on June 6, 2007, replacing Brian Hill. During the 2007-08 season, the Orlando Magic won 52 games and captured the Southeast Division Championship. During the 2008-09, the Magic made it to the NBA Finals, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games, 4-1. Construction is underway on a new, 20,000-seat Orlando Magic arena in downtown Orlando.
Orlando Magic season tickets are available through the RDV Sportsplex Orlando Magic Box Office, by calling 407-89-MAGIC or by visiting www.orlandomagic.com.
