American Idol Experience to Open at Disney World on February 14, 2009
Based on the immensely popular FOX TV series, "American Idol," the new American Idol Experience attraction will allow guests to "watch, perform and vote" for their favorite singers. The American Idol Experience will open at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World Resort on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2009.
Select guests (ages 14 and over) who get chosen to participate in The American Idol Experience will be able to experience what it feels like to go through the process of trying to become an American Idol - from the audition process to a chance to perform "live" in front of an audience and panel of judges. As with the auditions for "American Idol," initial auditions will be solo without live or recorded instruments. Selected singers will advance to a second round, where they will choose songs from a list provided by the producers and audition again (this time with pre-recorded music). Those singers who pass the second audition will be scheduled into one of the preliminary American Idol Experience shows for each operating day.
American Idol Experience guest performers with the highest votes will compete in an end-of-day Grand Finale show. In addition, if their audience votes them the best singer of the day during The American Idol Experience finale show, they will receive a Dream Ticket. If they are eligible* to use the Dream Ticket, they will get the opportunity to make a reservation to sing in front of an "American Idol" representative at an actual regional audition of the "American Idol" TV show!
The American Idol Experience will be located in the "Superstar Television Theater (formerly the "ABC TV Theater, which was once home to the now-defunct Superstar Television attraction). Overlooking Echo Lake, The American Idol Experience will be nestled between the Great Movie Ride and Sounds Dangerous - Starring Drew Carey. Dining options near The American Idol Experience include Hollywood & Vine, 50's Prime Time Cafe and Backlot Express.
The American Idol Experience will be another in a long line of new and recently updated attractions that have opened at Disney's Hollywood Studios recently such as Block Party Bash, a lively Disney•Pixar-inspired parade that allows guests to dance along with their favorite characters from such hit Disney animated films as Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille and Monsters, Inc.; High School Musical 3: Senior Year - Right Here! Right Now!, a 15-minute live show that features music from this immensely popular movie; Jedi Training Academy, an intergalactic entertainment experience where young Jedi students can learn lightsaber moves from a Jedi Master before facing off in the ultimate test against the evil Darth Vader from the Star Wars films; Playhouse Disney-Live on Stage!, a sing along with Disney Channel TV characters from Playhouse Disney shows such as "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse," "Handy Manny" and "Little Einsteins"; and Toy Story Mania!, which uses state-of-the-art, 3-D technology to create an interactive ride-through video game.
