Amway Arena, 600 W. Amelia Street, Downtown Orlando, Florida Early November 2009 – Late April 2010 407-896-2442, 1-877-803-7073 The Orlando Magic basketball team plays its home games at the 17,500-seat Amway Arena in downtown Orlando. The Magic joined the National Basketball Association (NBA) during the 1989-90 season, drafted center Shaquille O’Neal as the No. 1 overall pick in 1992, traded for point guard Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway and three future first-round draft choices in 1993 and advanced to the NBA finals where they were swept by the Houston Rockets during the 1994-95 season. In 1996, Shaq headed to Los Angeles and the Magic floundered for the next couple of years but things looked up once again with the arrival of emerging superstar Tracy McGrady during the 2000-01 season. McGrady led the team for a couple of quality years but was traded in 2004 and the Magic now boast a highly talented squad that includes No. 1 draft pick Dwight Howard. The Orlando Magic advanced to the NBA Finals in 2009, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers.
